Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will soon be drawing names out of the hat for his three starting roles up top.

With more hamstring pings ringing across north London (well, Newcastle and Dubai in most recent cases), Arsenal are down to the bare bones in attack. Supporters are cursing their bad luck, but perhaps signing an attacker or two – not merely replacing Reiss Nelson with Raheem Sterling – would’ve left Arteta with more mitigation at his disposal.

The boss’ intent on stocking up at full-back and adding another midfielder who runs around and wins duels in the summer deviated focus from obvious needs in attack, but they had another chance in January. The Gunners didn’t need Arteta’s utopian striker/winger, they just needed bodies. The absence of a single signing meant they were always at risk of enduring their current nightmare.

Here’s a list of Arsenal stars who’ll miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Leicester.

It’s been all bad, bad, bad on the injury front for Arsenal as of late, but there is a bit of positive news ahead of Saturday’s game.

Ben White has been out of action since mid-November after undergoing knee surgery, but Arteta has confirmed that the right-back will be available this weekend. White was involved in Arsenal’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai and is ready to finally offer Jurrien Timber respite.

However, the Gunners are still without Takehiro Tomiyasu, who continues to be plagued by a knee issue of his own. The Japanese international has played just six minutes all season, and a second knee surgery since he joined the club hasn’t been ruled out.

Kai Havertz

Since the transfer deadline passed without Arsenal signing a single soul, they’ve lost two more attackers to hamstring injuries.

Gabriel Martinelli’s going to miss the next month after picking up a niggle at Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, while Kai Havertz, only recently labelled a “genetic powerhouse” by his manager, will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his hamstring out in Dubai.

Havertz, like Bukayo Saka did back in December, will have to undergo surgery and is aiming to be ready in time for the start of pre-season. Regarding Saka, Arteta said there has been no setback in his recovery, contrary to reports, and he’s expected to be back in late March or early April

Gabriel Jesus tore his ACL during the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat to Manchester United at the start of the year, and won’t play again this season.
