Everton v Southampton – Line-ups, stats and preview
Match preview for Everton v Southampton
Everton will bring the curtain down on more than a century of history this Sunday, as they host Southampton in their final match at Goodison Park.
It’s set to be an emotional afternoon for Toffees fans, who will bid farewell to the stadium that’s been their home since 1892. But amid the nostalgia, there’s still a job to do on the pitch.
Everton arrive off the back of a gritty away win and now have the chance to record back-to-back victories – something they’ve only managed once before in this campaign.
Their recent form at home, however,is not promising. They have gone seven games without a win at Goodison in the league and cup.
For Southampton, the visit to Merseyside offers a final shot at pride after a tough season that’s ended in relegation. But history might just be on their side – they beat Everton 1-0 in the reverse fixture and could complete their first league double over the Toffees since 1997-98.
The Saints also won at Goodison Park last season. Two straight league wins there would mark a feat not achieved in over half a century.
