Madrid Open schedule: Draper faces potential Djokovic tie

Here’s all you need to for this year’s Madrid Open as Andrey Rublev and Iga Swiatek defend their titles.

A stacked men’s side of the draw sees Novak Djokovic projected to meet Britain’s Jack Draper in the quarter-finals. Both players start their tournament in round two matches on Saturday.

Alexander Zverev top seeds on the other half of the draw and is already through to round three after a convincing win over Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut.

Defending champion Rublev received a walkover into the third round, meanwhile, after France’s Gael Monfils withdrew due to illness.

How are the Brits faring?

In the men’s tournament, Jack Draper faces Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in round two on Saturday after receiving a bye through the first round.

Cameron Norrie, meanwhile, progressed to round two to play 26th seed Jiri Lehecka after battling through illness to to beat Spanish youngster Martin Landaluce in three sets.

Jacob Fearnley made it through qualifying after two big wins against Pavel Kotov and Hugo Dellien. He then beat China’s Yunchaokete Bu to set up a second-round encounter with 19th seed Tomas Machac

Billy Harris suffered defeat to Ethan Quinn in qualifying.

But there are already no British women left in the tournament.

Emma Raducanu beat Suzan Lamens in straight sets in the first round but lost to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in a competitive three-set second round match.

Raducanu’s exit followed on British No 1 Katie Boulter losing at the same stage, the British No 1 thumped in straight sets 6-1 6-2 by Jasmine Paolini in just 56 minutes.

It was a similar story for Sonay Kartal against in-form Elina Svitolina, the British No 3 losing out 6-3 6-1 to the 17th seed.
