Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes considering mega-money move to Al-Hilal

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is seriously considering leaving the club next week to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in a deal that would see him earn £700,000 a week.

Reports suggest the 30-year-old’s representatives have met Al-Hilal officials recently for further discussions, with a transfer fee believed to be above £80million.

The move would also allow Fernandes to feature in the upcoming Club World Cup, where Al-Hilal are set to face Real Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg, and Pachuca in the group stage.

Fernandes has yet to give a definitive answer on his future during United’s post-season tour of Asia, though he continues to captain the side on the pitch.

While manager Ruben Amorim has publicly expressed a desire to keep his talisman, who was crowned the club’s player of the year for a joint-record fourth time this season, he also sees the proposed deal as an opportunity to reshape the squad.

“We talk about this many times,” Amorim said.

“You can see by his performances, by his leadership and passion for the game. In difficult moments Bruno is the guy who takes responsibility. He should do because he is the captain.”

Fernandes, who signed a contract extension until 2027 last summer, would be handed a three-year deal worth £200m if he moved.

The Portuguese playmaker was United’s top scorer last season with 19 goals, and many fans believe the club might have faced relegation without his influence.

However, some, including former captain Roy Keane, have been critical of Fernandes, arguing that his perceived lack of discipline is part of United’s ongoing struggles.

For now, Fernandes is expected to play in United’s friendly against Hong Kong on Friday but a deal could materialise quickly with Al-Hilal giving the Portugal international a deadline to make a decision.
