A “world-class” Manchester United target is now tempted to join Manchester City this summer, with Pep Guardiola a big fan, according to reports.

Man City gearing up for the Club World Cup

While it remains to be seen whether the huge prize money on offer at the Club World Cup sparks much interest from supporters, former Premier League defender Danny Higginbotham believes the competition will be a shot at redemption for Guardiola after a trophyless season.

Higginbotham said: “Manchester City, obviously got beat in the FA Cup Final by Crystal Palace. Did finish in the top four, but didn’t really challenge for the Premier League. They will see it [the Club World Cup] maybe as a little bit of redemption.”

It certainly appears as though the Blues will take the new-look competition seriously, having already signed Rayan Ait-Nouri, while there is a desire to seal a deal for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki before the initial transfer window slams shut.

There have also been widespread rumours that Guardiola could look to replace Ederson this summer, and there has now been a new update, with a report from France (via TEAMtalk) revealing Man City have expressed an interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Not only that, but a move to the Etihad Stadium is tempting for the goalkeeper, which may come as concerning news for rivals Man United, given that they were thought to be preparing a £50m bid for Donnarumma last month.

City are said to be willing to cash-in on Ederson, in order to bring in a long-term replacement, and the PSG shot-stopper has discussed a move to the Premier League with his teammates, however, he is also open to the idea of an Old Trafford move as well as the Etihad.

Guardiola known to be admirer of “world-class” Donnarumma

Guardiola is thought to be a big fan of the Italian goalkeeper, and his stock will only have risen since playing a major role in PSG’s Champions League triumph, making 15 appearances and keeping a clean sheet in the 5-0 rout of Inter Milan in the final.

In light of his impressive performances for PSG, the 26-year-old is currently fourth in the Ballon d’Or power rankings, so it is little wonder Man City have now expressed an interest in bringing him to the Etihad Stadium.

Man City have set their sights on signing a goalkeeper who is way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Lauded as “world-class” by Carlo Ancelotti, Donnarumma could be a fantastic signing for Man City, but it remains to be seen whether he is willing to leave PSG, fresh off the back of the French side winning the first Champions League in their history.
